Privacy Policy

Turjumaan (the "App") is a translation tool that converts between English and Somali speech and text. This policy explains what data we handle and why.

What we collect

• Audio recordings: When you tap the microphone button, the App records your voice and sends the audio to our server for transcription. We do not retain your audio after the translation is returned.
• Translated text: The original and translated text are stored to power your in-app translation history and to improve common translations through caching. Stored text is not linked to your name, email, or any personal identity.
• Anonymous device identifier: A randomly generated identifier is created on your device and sent with each request so we can apply daily free-usage limits and prevent abuse. It is not linked to your Apple ID, Google account, or contact information.
• Network metadata: Standard server logs (IP address, timestamps) are kept for short periods for security and rate-limiting.

What we do not collect

• We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, or precise location.
• We do not sell or share your data with advertisers.
• We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.

Third-party services

Audio and text are sent to OpenAI's API for speech-to-text, translation, and text-to-speech. OpenAI processes this data under its own API data usage policy and does not use API inputs to train its models. See openai.com/policies/api-data-usage-policies.

Data retention

• Audio: not stored after translation completes.
• Translation history and cache: retained until you uninstall the app or we delete it on request.
• Server logs: rotated within 30 days.

Children

The App is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

You can stop all data collection by uninstalling the App. To request deletion of stored translation history associated with your device, contact us at the email below.

Changes

If we materially change this policy, we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, notify users in-app.
